Activity Description
Activity Overview
An empathy chart is a tool that helps a design team to understand and share the feelings of the people they are designing for. You can make an empathy map for a group of people or for a persona. It can be used after doing personas when more insight is needed.
Objectives
- Personas normally outline lifestyle but not necessarily the (sensory) experience of the users.
Step By Step Procedures
- Gather your team or group and draw a circle to represent your target persona. Brief the team on the persona.
- Divide the circle into sections, representing that persona’s sensory experience. Explain to the team what each of the circles means.
- Ask your team to narrate their experience from the persona’s point of view. Moderate the discussion and collect all relevant information on the chart.
Note to Participants
Try to understand the persona’s point of view as much as possible.
Expected Outcomes
Insight in the needs and desires of the persona.
Closing Remarks
Collect insights and communicate them, this could be done using a mood board.
