Tilt-A-Cup Game Minute to Win It

Tilt-A-Cup is a fun game which became popular when it was included in the “Minute to Win It” Challenge Game Show.

This game starts of relatively easy and becomes trickier towards the end.  The actual process of bouncing the ball and catching it in a cup is not really the difficult part of the game.  The balancing of all the cups as you get further into the game that becomes difficult.

Tilt-A-Cup can be played as part of a Minute to Win It themed team building activity or as an activity as part of a Group Fun Games.

As a group activity it can either be individuals from each activity competing against each other, or in a relay format.

The Goal of Tilt-A-Cup

The goal is to create a tower of cups that have the ping pong balls in them. This is done by bouncing the ping pong balls on the floor (or an easier version is a counter top) and then landing them in the plastic cups. This increasingly wobbly tower of seven cups with balls in them needs to be completed in less than a minute without the anything falling over.

Equipment Needed for Tilt-A-Cup

This is what you will need:

A minimum of 8 ping pong balls per player or team (it’s a good idea to have more)

A basket to hold the ping pong balls,

A minimum of 8 plastic cups,

A timer and table

A nice to have extra is a scene setter blueprint to play before and a counting down video blueprint

How to Play Tilt-A-Cup Minute to Win It

For the set up put 8 the ping pong balls in the basket as well as the 8 cups which must be stacked.

At the beginning of the Tilt-A-Cup game, the player holds the cups in one hand.

The player then bounces one of the ping pong balls on the floor (or table in the easier version of the game) and needs to land the ball in the cup on the top of the pile of cups.

The player then needs to take the cup at the bottom stack, and place that cup to the top of the stack, which will cover the ball that just landed.

The player then needs to bounce another ping pong ball to land in the new top cup.

The player must then continue this way and attempt to have all the 8 cups correctly stacked with the ping-pong balls inside them.

The goal is to complete the stack without any cups falling over or any of the ping pong balls dropping out before the end of the one-minute.

The Rules of Tilt-A-Cup

The balls are only allowed to bounce once before going into the cups.

The player can only hold the cups in one of their hands.

The player can use their other hand to change the cups, however they are only allowed to use one hand to hold the cups that are catching the balls.

If the cups fall over at any time they need to start again at the beginning.

Tips and Tricks for Tilt-A-Cup

You may not realise that the tower of cups could be reasonably stable. The key is to only bounce the balls the required height to get into the plastic cups and not make too many movements.
